Tropical Cyclone Mona has finally passed through the Fiji group after almost a week of rain and wind. Today the sun is out, the sea is calm, the laundry is drying, and the solar system is charging. And we’re all feeling blessed to have come through this past week with no damage to the house, crops, bees, and chickens, yeah!!!!
One of my New Year’s resolutions is to get back to writing my blog. Its been almost a year since my last post. I’ve had lots of friends and family ask about when I’m going to post again. My apologies. While I can blame it on being busy with the farm, my life is much slower than it was the last few years in Canada. But I think cultural adjustment has been the bigger contribution to my writers block. Its difficult for me to write about my personal, cultural and mental adjustment to life in a rural and isolated location without sounding negative, so it was easier to just not write. This year I’ll do better.
Highlights for 2018 include purchasing a celebrating my mother’s 80th birthday, 2.5 ton farm truck, expanding our poultry farm, learning to split our beehives, Thomas joining us for the Canadian winter, and attending the Steiner Family reunion (Gracie Steiner was Arthur’s paternal grandmother). Rather than trying to summarise the year in words, here’s a slide show.

Hi Karen,
So glad you have taken up blogging again. So good to hear from you too. I have been wondering why I hadn’t seen any blogs from you. Life does get in the way somehow and writers’ block does not make it easier to write either.
We are enduring -30-35 C weather these past couple of days, so consequently only about ten members showed up for the Pinetree meeting last night. Pinetree has become very active with numerous projects being carried out. Pinetree members made a Quilt of Valour last year and possibly making another one this year. We also dedicate the March Retreat to making Charity quilts in honour of Sheila Pollack who passed away about three years ago. Dorothy McLeod also passed away in July both were from cancer.
Ken and I are doing fine, although we do have our normal pain complaints. I was able to make five quilts last year in varying sizes. I am currently working on another denim quilt for our grandson at the moment. I made one for our granddaughter last summer, trying to use up my denim scraps. That’s about all the news for now. I am still carpet bowling on Wednesdays.

So good to hear from you Dorothy. I’m glad to hear that you’re still quilting and that Pinetree is going strong. I’m very sorry to hear that Dorothy McLeod passed away, Jim will miss her terribly. I haven’t done any quilting but I have had my sewing machine out and made a few shirts and skirts. Hopefully this year I’ll be able to do some more sewing. Say hello to the ladies at Pinetree.

So good to see you writing again. Enjoyed our video chat the other day. All is well here, Cam turned 27 on Sunday (kid was born ar a rotten time of year!), Mary retired on her Birthday December 13th and is loving it, Paige is wedding planning, and I am Fairy Grandmothering like mad. Will look forward to future entries.

Happy New Year from Whitehorse.
Our Grandson Terance hs been living with us for the past two years. Kim is still working at Copper Ridge. Terance is in grade 9. I am still busy with our First Nation KDFN. Melissa is full time with YTG Transportation. We r talking of going for a trip to Australia to run away from this cold. A few weeks ago it was – 37 below at our house and the power ws out for 10 hrs.
