Road Construction Underway

looking back at the road from the house site

I’ve been back in Fiji for 2 weeks already. The first week I spent in Suva dealing with the immigration dept. After several months of waiting I finally received my spousal exemption visa. This visa is good for one year and allows me to stay in Fiji and come and go. It’s the first step towards getting my Fijian citizenship.

We took the ferry over to our island last Monday. That evening the crew that’s putting in our road arrived and the place has been buzzing ever since. This week the goal has been to clear the path of trees and also clear the area for the house. It’s been quite something to watch the digger push the trees over. Next week the crew will bring in a D6 machine (one with a wide blade) which will scrape the road and build the drainage ditches. We’ll wait until January or February to add some gravel to the road.

Christmas is fast approaching. Arthur and I will be spending Christmas with his brother John and family at the family farm, Waidranudranu Estate. We hope that all of you following my blog have very Merry Christmas and a Joyous New Year!!!!

Fantastic news! The trees are absolutely amazing. The photo with Arthur really shows the scale of the work that you are doing. Getting gravel laid will get you that much closer to building the house. Thinking of you both. Snow is finally on the ground although it is only a few degrees below freezing. Ellen
