Today is the first day of of my retirement if I don’t count last Friday. But last friday was really a recovery day which I spent in my nightie and housecoat all day. Today is the start of a new week – the first week that I don’t have to go to work. I’ve enjoyed a 30 year career in health care, first as an Occupational Therapist, then as a Manager of Rehabilitation Therapies, and finishing as The Director of Strategic Initiatives with the Yukon Hospital Corporation. I can truely say I’ve had a rich working experience. I will miss the people I’ve worked with and the challenges that come with delivering the best and safest possible health care in today’s world.
Transitioning to retirement will take some time. I’ve set a few goals for myself to help with the adjustment. First I plan to leave the door everyday at the same time I usually leave but go for a 5K walk instead of heading off to work. This will help with my second goal which is to loose the 20 lbs that I put on in the last 2 years. The third goal is to sell the house and finish packing in preparation for our move to Fiji. And of course I plan to visit Mom and Dad in Vancouver and also finish a couple of quilts.
I had a great start on these goals today with my first 5K walk. The skies were clear and only -1 C.
