Celebrating my first anniversary of my retirement

Retired 1 year!!!!

Its hard to believe that its already been one year since I retired. I still occasionally think about work but those moments are getting fewer and farther between. Life has been too busy to miss what was.  Looking back at the past year I’m amazed that so much has happened starting with selling and packing up our house, moving half way around the world, starting an off grid farm in rural Fiji, and surviving 3 tropical cyclones (Winston, Zena, and Amos). Life is good and Arthur and I are excited about our plans for the upcoming year.

Oh damn, my kindle is broken
Oh damn, my kindle is broken

My retirement gift from work, a gift certificate to Kindle e-books, has been much appreciated as it has supplied numerous books and still has credit available. I look forward to reading a few chapters every night before I go to bed.  Unfortunately my kindle was knocked off a chair a few days ago and the inner screen was broken.  I’ve ordered a new one but won’t receive it until I’m back in Canada in June.  In the mean time I am using the Kindle app on our iPad but the iPad uses lots more energy and requires more frequent charging than the kindle did. Our little solar power system is being used to the max to support my reading habit.

You have done a ton in a single year! Nice to see you are not staying still long enough to let the grass grow under your feet. I could not function without reading, so I am super glad you are getting a new kindle…maybe you need 2 so you have a back up?

Glad to hear you are enjoying retirement, Karen, You certainly have accomplished a lot in a very short time frame. Presume things are going along fairly smoothly now, after three cyclones! And two additions to the family!
Weather in Whitehorse is still fairly cool, but at least we are not on fire as in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
So are you coming to Whitehorse in June? If so, hope to see you then.

Congrats! Do you feel like you are retired? You sure sound busy. Good too see that you and the puppy. Our puppy is 14 years old now still thinks he’s a puppy, slowing down just a little. Enjoy your retirement. One day…
